Observation details

Large, slender shearwater with dark-gray-brown plumage. Bird was doing a classic arcing over waves far in a distance. Powerful long narrow wings with strong direct gliding. Did not see any flapping at all. Lighting wasn't optimal for any type of detailed quality shots. Not a Great Shearwater because species would have a dark cap contrasting with white face (not seeing in photo). Not a Cory's Shearwater which I have seen some times before because the bird in photo shows solid brown like upper parts. I could not see its underparts since bird kept ventral side facing away. Cory's Shearwater would also show a slow, languid flight compared to other shearwaters plus Cory's are much lighter. Cory's would show a more rounded tail and Great Shearwater with its fan-tailed shape not seen on photo. I had better views on my binoculars.
