Poor quality due to distance (more than 100 yards) and strong breeze causing instability of camera.
Observation details
Gannet-like in shape and size but dark brown on upper side, also brown head color extending down to a bib abruptly contrasting with the white breast and belly. Underside of wings is brown with a narrow, whitish wedge extending from the body toward the wing tips. Very large bill and pale face patch in front of and around the eye, with what appeared to be some blue color (a male?). Remarkably large, webbed feet were bright yellow in the sun. We watched the bird sit on its belly, stand up on its legs, preen and spread its wings, fly over the lake, dive down to catch fish, and fly and land on the post where the entire sequence began. What a wonderful show, and what an exciting experience!
