NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut #E-6. Bulk reel #500 Song type 1 = SO-SOO-la; 2 = SO-SO-LA; 3 = SO-LAA. 175 tape. Time: 4:40 to 4:55 PM. The following birds are in the area from which the songs of Cut E-4, b) came. a) Type 2, lower voice; recorded from two different positions. (Type 1 in background.) Quality: 3 to 2+. Level: 0, -3. b) type 2 or 2-3, higher-voiced bird. (Birds of a) & b) in background.) Quality: 2+. Level: -3. Copy from N-4.2 to N-IV on 175 tape. c) Type 1 (another type 1 in background, also a higher type 2 and bird of a). (See also note #9 on general note sheets.) Quality: 2-. Level: 0. (cf. also Cut E-8.) In this area (during the whole time I whistled type 1 phrases), there were a number of birds fairly close together, at least some ofo which decoyed to my whistle. I noticed two birds with type 2 phrase, one lower and one higher; two type 1 birds, one lower and one higher; one or two otype 3. I suspect these birds were on their territories and had gathered here, not as a group, but to find better bush vegetation down here in the gully under which to spend the night (although rains had started, the woods on the higher ground are still fairly bare.) -- although perhaps brought unusually close together by my constant whistled call and the attendant responses, [rest of sentence fades away on film].
