Observation details
Alerted to birds presence by mob of chickadees, cardinals, and sparrows. Expecting a screech owl I was surprised to find Whip perched beside the trail about 3-4 feet off the ground soaking up some sun. Stocky bird, more so than a Nighthawk. Thin white bib under dark throat, rich buffy colouring, lacking white wing bars and the underside did not have the linear pattern of night hawk. The tail was buffy and did not appear to have any white, which makes me think this was a female.
