Media notes
One of two Caspian Terns photographed flying over the Presumpscot River from the North Meadow at Gilsland Farm. Approximately 2300 feet away, as measured on Google Earth.
Observation details
*uncommon | patch bird #208 | large tern first spotted by Derek Lovitch flying up river and eventually making several passes between a large gap in the trees; on one of the final passes we realized there was actually a second CATE as they were viewed flying together. Large, heavy bodied tern with thick neck. White on the body with a black gradient in the primaries. Black cap looked complete (presumably an adult). Thick red-orange bill only visible (to me) through the scope.
