NOTES: BRUSHY HILLSIDE. MOSTLY DRUMMING AND THEN A FEW SHARP CALLS. NORMAL INTERVAL BETWEEN DRUMS WAS ABOUT 35 SECONDS. [The two parts of this recording contain, respectively, four Drums and then two series of "Kweek" Calls (the first decapitated) followed by a Drum. The "Kweek" calls are of Type 1 pictured in Figure 22I of Winkler and Short (1978. A comparative analysis of acoustical signals in pied woodpeckers (Aves, Picoides). Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist. 160(1): 1-110). Quality changed from 1-2 to 2-1 - CAM - 19 April 2005]. Other Behaviors: Bill Drumming.
