Observation details
First thought: tringa sp., no. Second thought: dowitcher sp., also no. Very long yellow-green legs, scaly back, and clean flanks. Bright supercilium contrasting with rufousy crown. Long, heavy, and dark bill that had a slight droop near the tip. Foraged by quickly probing one-several times, then pausing before probing a new area. Much smaller than nearby GRYE. Tail dark at the end, white at base, without barring. GRYE flushed the group of shorebirds (for no apparent reason, I may add) and it and the STSA flew SW before dropping into a distant slough channel. In flight, long legs extended well beyond tail, held slightly above horizontal. Beautiful bird, and a lifer too!
