NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 16. Bulk reel: 403. For comments re: this recording, cf. the notes of this date on editing sheet of Cut 20. a) 15/IV/73. 6:15 AM. Weather: Clear. Heard are the final two phrases by a female. Then PAS imitation of female song and reply by this "triplet bird," which I imagine is the same one of Cut 15. This bird gives a "couplet" call on one occasion. (Note the bird first heard far away was apparently giving normal couplet calls, although when faintly heard it may be the triplet is not distinguishable.) This seems possible, for at 6:00 AM 16/V/73 a bird heard far (near km 13) as it first was yesterday, could not be surely distinguished as to whether triplet or couplet. Quality: "2." Level: 0. No parabola. Low noise. Copied N-4.2 to N-IV. 203 tape. b) 16/IV/73. 6:03 AM. Weather: Clear, fair. Male first heard far away @ ~ 6:00 AM. After a silence it sang again, closer and this is here recorded. This is natural song and the bird gives "triplets" in first part, then couplets. A couple phrases later bird stopped singing and after a few minutes again sang briefly (not recorded). That was last song given this AM (at least up to 6:30, when I left. No female heard. I tried no imitation of any kind today.) Note: 11/V/73 - km 18.5 - The "triplet bird" was heard singing naturally at dawn. Heard also in 1973!!.
