Observation details
Continuing juvenile first found by Marshall Iliff. Calling consistently. Slightly larger and grayer than nearby semipalmated plovers. Dark lores, no obvious eyering. Black lores to gape. Bill all, or nearly all black, unlike SEPLs which all had obvious orange patch near the base. In flight, obviously longer winged and lankier than Semipalmated Plovers. This was not an easy or straightforward ID; when the birds were moving or feeding, the diagnostic fieldmarks were difficult to detect, and harder to rule out on the many SEPLs. The call was usually the best way to re-locate the bird when the flock shifted. Many photos, videos, and sound recordings obtained.
