Red Knot
Observation details
Originally we saw it at the north end of the south pond - good scope views for everyone. Before I could photograph it, the bird flew over to the NW pond. We viewed the Red Knot from the road, by the north end of the NW pond ... of course the knot was at the extreme south end of the NW pond, making photo taking very difficult. Our scope views were much better than the photos. The Red know was about the same size as a Killdeer; plump body with short dull olive legs; short dark fairly heavy bill; pale gray above, with some dark edges on the wing feathers and white along the fringes of the feathers, giving a scalloped appearance; underside pale; primaries black; pale supercilium.
