NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 71. Bulk reel: 384Weather: Fair. This is a different working site, on upper road just before km 21; this ravine meets the lower road exactly @ old km 25 (22.5 new). There therefore are entirely different birds from previous recordings of this year.Quiet "ao" calls (by female?), a display (by a male) with fairly spirited, almost conflict type, calling by another bird (perhaps the female?). There had already been several displays when I recorded this.) Then another display. In the interim between the displays one bird gave "quiet ao" calls and the other bird (there were only two present) gave ascending whistles; it was the latter bird that made the flight displays. The second display recorded was seen fairly well: the bird took off from inside the tree but waited until it was clear of the tree before beginning the display; the wings in beating during the display did not meet over the back,k app. did not go above the horizontal; neither did they meet below with certainty, but they may have at the tips. The wings appeared to be held "bowed" and stiff. This was the last display. Both before and after this the male obviously followed after the female. It was when she started to move away more rapidly, apparently heading toward a foraging area, that the male stopped displaying and followed her with normal flight, without displaying.203 tape. Quality: 2. Level: +2. Copied N-4.2 to N-IV.
