NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 3. Bulk reel: 370 "Soft calls" and "crows" given naturally and actually obtained incidentally while trying to record the Dendrocolaptid heard at beginning and afterwards and which still remains unidentified. (Dendrocolaptes picumnus 25/IV/68 PAS). Quality: "1-2" (but cicada background). Level: 0. [Recordist did not indicate type of microphone used. He indicated that he used a parabola but did not specify make/model.] Later the bird gives some growls, etc.; also a "wing-whir" by another bird is heard. This bird then becomes silent, or more likely left the area and shortly I heard crows from behind me. There are recorded [sic]; perhaps they are being given by another individiual. (Much cicada noise.) Quality: 2. Level: 0. 14 Feb 1968. I wasn't able to collect this bird but all campesinos for whom I played this both near Rio Grande and Rio Caura say it's this bird. Also these sounds I heard frequently around the Cano La Urbana (Rio Caura) and I did not hear there any sure indication of marail. Therefore I think there is no doubt that Cuts 1, 2, & 3 are of granti [jacquacu].
