NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 22. Bulk reel: 370. Weather: fair. Notes: I'm rather certain these calls are by marail. (For some calls very probably of jacquacu (granti) and recorded in this same spot a few munites earlier, see Cut 21 of that sp. No wing-whirrs heard. Quality: 2-3. Level: +10. Parabola: yes. Note: 3/VII/68, heard some calls ~1KM N. of Km 9.5 but no displays. The first calls were at about 5:20AM. 4/VII/68: Ditto (first few calls at about 5:25AM). 5/VII/68, same place, heard one display at 5:20AM, another at 525 AM and also heard marail calling in the same approximate site, I presume the displays may have been by marail! These are the only guan displays heard so far on this trip. 6/VII/68. 5:25AM. Km 10. Notes: I was on the spot at 5:05AM. I noted that marail *[see *note below] was calling and that another bird, apparently (and species not known of course), that was not calling, gave a display; about 2' later, another display by perhaps same bird (distant and not recordable). About 2' later, another display. *As bird was in distance I'm not sure it was marial. Also as a bird that was then recorded calling and displaying was almost surely jacquacu (see Cut 23) of that species), I think all of this note may really refer to that species. However marail was definitely in this area, see cuts 22 and 23.
