NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 18. Bulk reel: 350 Weather: Fair. Bird #3. Twittering calls as this male sits in a foliage "nook" that he has selected for a nest site, inviting a nearby female (who was apparently attracted by his advertising song) to inspect, and presumably build, there. The calls became more excited when the female joined the male in the site; the male then moved out to an immediately adjacent bare twig perch and sang twice and the pair then flew away. Quality: 2. Level: +3. 203 tape. LN. One song by male. Quality: 1-2. Level: +3. a few minutes after the pair left, the male returned to the site and shortly after the female returned, too. Both birds went into the "nook" amidst the foliage but the female spent most time there and went through "forming" motions trying out the site. After she left again the male sang from the immediately adjacent bare twigs (only one song recorded). Apparently the female did not like the site for I never saw her return again and male later sang frequently from another perch on a high vine tangle (cf. Cuts 19/[blank]). Note: I returned two weeks later and couldn't find a trace of this species anywhere in the whole region. Other Behaviors: Advertise, Court.
