Observation details
Seemingly an unusually high count but an accurate one. Very small, compact gulls with bouyant flight on rounded wings that appear to blink black/white as the underside of the wings are are very dark grey. Many were summer adults with dark heads, clean white plumage, light grey mantles and bright red legs although a few were first summer birds with the characteristic M shaped pattern on the upper wings formed by the dark first few primaries and a bar across the median coverts (I think that is the feather band involved). The tail tips of the first summer birds had some black in a sub-terminal bar.
