NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 2. Bulk reel: 347 These are sounds by the two "female"-plumaged birds in the big cage. ~8:30 AM. First (203 tape): recordings of a "song" trill which was frequently heard but only during brief periods (recorded with the mike in position for recording the male). Quality: 2. Level: 0. Nagra IV. [type of microphone not indicated. No parabola.] 1:30 to 3:00 PM. Then with mike near the big cage: calls and "fighting sounds". Quality: 1. Level: 0. Nagra III, Senn. 650, no parabola. 7.5 ips. Std. Due to the fighting that developed between the two "females" in the big cage (from very beginning they "fought" but it was always just a bill-to-bill duel, but today they started fighting in earnest, pulling out feathers, etc.; the aggressive bird would sit with quivering wings when it wasn't chasing the other), I removed one (couldn't tell which one) to another small cage. Aftger that there was never again heard "song" from the big cage. This bird was sacrificed 16 Dec and found to be an adult female (ovaries not enlarged).
