NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 21. Bulk reel: 329; Extra cut length: 8:02Weather: Fair.a) Natural song by the female. Quality: 1-2. Level: +10.(This is the "slow" song and as I had already suspected is the "female song.")b) After playback, the bird sang the same "slow" song. About mmiddle the male is heard once in background and the female then changes her song and seemed to sing a bit more "hastily." Quality: 1. Level: +10, +5.Then after more playback, this bird never sang anything but this "slow" song. It was then collected [= #1 female #6667].c) Natural song by the male after the female had been collected. Quality: 2. Level: +12.Then I played back the "slow" song of the female and this male continued singing as above and paid no attention. Then I played fast song above and this bird flew back and forth very excitedly after playback and then started singing the fast song again. Quality: 1, 1-2, 1. Level: +5, +10, +5.Numerous playbacks brought only the fast song reaction from this bird which was then collected [= #2 male #6668].Note: Therefore the sexes not only sing specific songs, "slow" the female; "fast" the male, but apparently they react only to their own sex's type song. This was already fairly evident from Cut 20 and from previous experience. (See also Cut 16.).
