NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 1. Bulk reel: 282 Weather: Cloudy, fair. First, song recorded in distance. Quality: 3. Level: 0. Next, vocal reactioin to playback of the first part. During the first half, the "song" is not "normal" but after that it seems to be so.Quality: 1. Level: 0. This bird was very secretive, and I could never catch more than a glimpse of it. It always stayed in the undergrowth. Several attempts on later days were no more successful. Also, I could never find this species in any other place. Note re: identification: I was not able to collect this bird in 1965. However, on 19 May 1966 at a site ~ 500 m. east of river, I heard this song and the call notes. I played the field tape prepared from Cut 1) and a pair of birds came in immediately and remained there, flying about excitedly with each new playing. Therefore, I have no doubt of this same species. The pair was collected: male #5043, female #5030.
