NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 13. Bulk reel: 262 Weather: Fair. Some peculiar vocalizations. Quality: 2. Level: +5. 203 tape. These may have to do with courtship and nesting, for the next day similar calls were heard and bird was seen to enter a tree cavity with dead leaf in bill. *Although the bird was seen and appeared to be this species, the other sound which seems a song phrase of D. picumnus may place some doubt on my sight identification of the two rather similar birds. However, the vocal quality seems to be of X. promeropirhynchus and I think there is little doubt about the identification. Note: The very last call coming from the background appears to be of Dendrocolaptes picumnus.
