Observation details

Very distinctive birds, with much more black on the lores, a longer bill, and larger eye-ring than those from the mainland, or even islands further north in the Andaman and Nicobar chain. Vocalizations also distinct, thinner sounding and closer to the calls of Ornate Sunbird. Much shyer and less obtrusive than Indian White-eyes, tending to stick higher and more hidden in the foliage, calling less and thus being more easily overlooked. Clearly a different species, and apparently undescribed as the type nicobaricus is from Car Nicobar, which phenotypically looks to cluster with birds on the Andaman Islands and not with the ones from Great Nicobar.
