Observation details

Visual of one foraging on upper trunks of several pine trees. All drab back, lacking the white back of Downy or Hairy; distinctive large white slash on folded wing; dark brown cap showing hints of red, consistent with juvenile plumage. Second bird heard only, a series of mew calls.
