Acadian Flycatcher fledgling
Observation details
FUHm; Two different males singing; Fledglings calling and being fed; I witnessed an adult bird feeding a fledgling, and the fledgling made a dry, rasping call which is included among the sound files. Two different males were singing a complete song, and many interaction calls were heard and recorded. I did witness the feeding of young on three separate instances within an hour. Habitat is mature sugar maple forest in a wide draw or shallow and gentle "ravine" terminating at a pool of water. Most canopy trees are mature sugar maple. Some are mature red oak, white ash, and basswood. The canopy is 95% complete and there is a well-developed shrub layer of ironwood. The sub canopy layer is wide open, the stand being cathedral-like, offering an excellent area for aerial foraging. Trees are marked for timber sale, but I am not sure which activity trees are marked for ( many have red paint applied).
