Media notes
Hen turkey giving content “purr” call under my house deck while scratching in the dry leaf litter.
Observation details
Feeding under the feeder, on the cracked corn and kernel corn I spread there each morning. This sound recording is of two hens directly under my microphone, under the deck where there is no snow on the ground. They are scratching the ground and giving soft murmurings to each other. The correct name of the call is a “purr call” meaning “all is well” and “we are happy” as they scratch the ground searching for food. The sound is not great in that it was first captured on a Shure SM63 microphone, then amplified through a Sound Devices MixPre amplifier and broadcast with an Advent Powered Partner speaker. I then recorded it from there with a handheld Apple iPhone 16 running Merlin, held up to the speaker.
