Observation details
Biggest surprise ever! I came home from lunch out and this awesome Heron was in my garden. Mercifully it waited while I parked the car and ran indoors to get my camera! Then I saw that there were two, and then I saw that there were three! They were walking around the vineyard together and briefly flying from one spot to another. They continued foraging amidst the arugula and the long wet grass. I continued watching and photographing them for the first 53 minutes of this checklist before they finally flew away, two of them and then the third. It appeared to me that the third, the one in the photos surrounded by the yellow calendula flowers, was a juvenile. He waited after the others took off, appearing to look through the fence for them (they were indeed the other side of the fence at this point). He then took off to join them after a few minutes. All of these photos were taken while they were on my own land, though I also briefly saw them in the field next door before they flew off. Wow.
