Observation details
Truly a wondrous waterfowl. This confounding creature floated out of a small cove (barely a cove) on the east bank of the river as we walked up to the manhole cover. Just before the pipe and “rapids”. Evoked memories of its white-winged congener over in Columbus. Alex and I rushed to take photos scared it may flush, but she was remarkably tame and didn’t look hurt, at least outwardly. We waited with her until reinforcements arrived. She didn’t mind the paparazzi — Chunky sea duck with a chocolatey body and off-white puffy cheeks + broad black bill. — (33.9739448, -83.3812553)
