Observation details
A small compact and chunky alcid with rocking flight and rapid wing beats was picked up well North of West Point by Matt D at about 07:43. The bird then landed briefly off of West Point where it was lost in the chop at 07:46 before then abruptly continuing South at 07:49 within green buoy distance providing for decent scope views. This bird seemed quite contrasty showing a white belly juxtaposed against an otherwise mostly slate gray body. A thin white stripe was noticeable on the underwing as well, the first time I’ve personally observed this marker on a sea watch observation. Documentation photo:
