Observation details
I have been looking for this species. They were swimming together at the south end, on the edge of a flock of Ring-necked Ducks mixed with Buffleheads. The adult male was asleep at first, but then untucked his beak showing the white patches and mostly orange bill, black body. The second individual was either an adult female or immature male. It had a very dark brown body with two whitish patches on the head, one behind the bill and one behind the eye. There are many records for this species at this location. The reservoir is closed due to a zebra mussel infestation. It will likely remain closed to the public. Even though I was very far away from the scoters, I tried to get a record shot. In my image, the male is on the right with his head tucked in and the other scoter (I think) is in the left side of the image.
