Media notes
Uncropped image of a Red-throated Loon to illustrated how far away the bird appeared through a 600mm lens.
Observation details
Continuing juvenile that was originally found by Bryant O. After hearing about the observation, I set up my scope by Shoreline Park because it was reported to be moving eastward from its original location. After seeing no loons from Shoreline Park, I tried the new Saratoga Marina on the west end of the Parkway Trail (Northshore) hotspot. While looking for the RTLO, I found a Pacific Loon. KC and Asher arrived at my location to look for the PALO, but we ended up relocating the RTLO instead. I was able to capture more of a silhouette of the distant RTLO for documentation purposes. The diagnostic image is cropped at 200%, but it shows the slightly upward pointing bill pretty well. A pale cheek and rather patternless gray neck could be observed as well through the scope. I've attached the original image to show the extent of cropping necessary for the diagnostic image.
