Media notes
The well seen and documented Boat-tailed Grackle (which is presumed to be a ship assisted bird) feeding in a garden at Holbury. A spectacular bird with loads of personality. Special thanks go the the people who own the property / garden he feels comfortable in for being so interested in their new arrival and extremely accommodating and tolerant to the constant stream of birders who have travelled far and wide to see him.
Observation details
We tried to see this bird early in the morning whilst it was raining and very windy - not a sign of him. We tried again in the afternoon when it became a little brighter and the rain had stopped. He was in the garden of 31 Southbourne Avenue feeding. The owners of this garden / property were both extremely nice and have befriended this bird where they are regularly feeding him. They were very worried that there was no sign of him in the morning and were beginning to wonder whether he had be caught by a cat / bird of prey or just moved on. They were both very relieved to see him re-appear in the afternoon. I was personally thrilled as this was my third attempt to try and see this beautifully striking bird with a personality larger than life!
