Media notes
Unfortunately didn't get a photo until it went onto the docks. This is the best photo I got.
Observation details
Rare this far south from Lake Erie. Picked out among 50 or so American Herring gull first cycle birds. First winter bird. Pale crescents on the primary tips. Dark tertial centers. Petite head and short bill. 3 of us studied the bird for a long time. Unfortunately it ended up on the docks buried among the flock. We waited for ever the flock finally lifted. In our brief open wing view we agreed the wing tips were very pale. Sent a few photos over to Jen Brumfield who agreed with Thayers.
