Observation details
Juvenile female flycatching at the south east corner of the Meiners Oaks schoolyard, using the backstop, fence, and nearby small trees. Alongside acorn woodpeckers and king birds, who ignored it and bluebirds who occasionally challenged it. Confused by the light streaking on the chest and what seemed to be pale yellow on the low belly and undertail I decided to get my camera. Returned an hour later, and it was still in action at the same location. Further confused by the presence of juvenile yellow rumped warblers, also with pale streaked breasts and traces of yellow, who joined in the flycatching. After examining photos at home, still completely stumped. Thanks to Michael Moss for ID’ing this bird!
