Observation details
Continuing. Photos TBA. ROOST LOCATION: 27.612749594414467, -97.43761161186455 Photos of the exact roost in last night's checklist: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/644967560 We rolled up pre-dawn and observed the FTFL in the roost. It popped out of the roost at 6:51 AM and perched on the fence across the street by the open field. It slowly worked its way northwest to the fenceline behind the big barn at the intersection of CRs 14 and 43 (27.6155052, -97.4357067). It foraged along the northern fenceline, perching in either the weedy field or on the fence until 7:22 AM. At this point, the STFL group flew up, up, and away in morning flight and the FTFL just seemed to disappear into the brush. We did not observe it fly overhead and presumed it stayed in the weedy field. Tyrannus flycatchers often return to the same roost night after night. It's certainly worthwhile to check the area from the intersection south to the roost, especially before dusk when the birds may return to roost. Great find by Emma Mathis. 3rd Nueces County record (April 2011, Pollywog Pond; April 2015, Paradise Pond, Port A) Nueces County #355 Texas #503
