Observation details

Number difficult to estimate as there was lots of milling happening; only a handful of juveniles seen. An afternoon to remember. This is the sort of event we were hoping for. Once the first birds appeared seemingly out of nowhere, they were in sight almost constantly for the rest of the afternoon. Visibility was quite poor due to driving snow, so pretty much every bird recorded was in close. A few did pass over the road going to/from the lagoon, but most were in the surf. Some seen picking sizeable invertebrates from the surf.
