Observation details
Found today by Deborah Crooks, then confirmed by Sharon J. and Alex Henry. Appears to be the first in Alameda state since 2008. Beautiful bird. Enjoyed by many. Spent almost all its time foraging in shallow water at edge of mudflat that had broken Spartina encrusted with green filamentous algae. Rusty red cap; big pale supercilium, pale lores, bold eyering, pale to rusty covert fringes; some of the coverts had rufous bases. Warm buffy breast. A spotty scaly spectacular sandpiper. Silent.
