Observation details
Linda Ireland and I began hearing KIRA "Kek-Churr" song on May 2, 2017. Based on information from Steve Arena, we believe this is a female advertising for a mate at the start of the breeding season. Tonight we heard the KIRA in emergent marsh and later in an area of flooded woods. The KIRA covered a lot of area. Audio recordings over multiple evenings were sent to Steve Arena for confirmation of KIRA. KIRA was accidentally found during a Rusty Blackbird spring census. This sighting was also submitted to the NHESP online database for state listed birds.
