Media notes
This adult female Brown Booby, photographed here by Curtis A. Marantz, was one of two birds seen on 16 July 2017 in the Santa Barbara Channel at 34° 03' 49" N, 119° 22' 38" W, and thus about 5½ kilometers north of East Anacapa Island, Ventura County, California.
Observation details
An adult female was seen well and photographed by many onboard as it associated with a large, mixed-species flock of birds on the north side of Anacapa Island at 34° 03' 49" N, 119° 22' 38" W, but a second, more distant bird that was seen by a few was of uncertain age. The female was a medium-sized booby with a conical bill, a long tail, and slim, tapered wings. The head, neck, breast, upperparts, rump, tail, and uppersides of the wings were uniformly chocolate-brown, but the belly, flanks, and undertail coverts were strikingly white. This bird also had lemon-yellow facial-skin and no suggestion of pale frosting around the face or on the crown.
