Observation details
Continuing at Raymond, although this may be a second Curlew Sandpiper. We photographed the shorebirds after being spooked by a Peregrine and found a non-breeding plumage sandpiper in our photos. It has a long, down-curved bill and a speckled white rump with no middle stripe. Its breast is also slightly speckled. Dark legs extend beyond the tail in flight. There may be two Curlew Sandpipers present. Another report from the same day contains photos of a Curlew Sandpiper with much more reddish still in the breast compared to the one we photographed.
