NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 4. Bulk reel: Notes previous to notes for Cut 4: Notes made in field (Cano La Urbana), 17/I/68, indicate that this species is a good flyer, makes long flights, seen this evening and last evening. Also at ~6PM one whistled near main camp.) Field Note: 16/1/68 - practically no activity at dawn, perhaps because it was cloudy. Field note: 18/1/68 - Much activity and display this dawn, which was clear (cloudless) and with moon (3 days after full moon.) Cut 4 Weather: clear. Notes: 1-song and 1 wing-whirr. Note that the latter begins with 2 claps. Other birds in background. Length: 21". Quality: 2. Level: +10 Field Note, 11/III/68, from ~11:45PM to 12:10AM, clear, moon, ~1KM South of the Cano, both pipile and jacquacu (granti) had a period of wing-whirr display activity, numerous individuals heard, and same individuals obviously displayed 2-4 times, especially noticeable in piple. The ~2Km South of Cano from ~12:00PM to 12:30PM, pipile also actively displaying, but NOT jacquacu. 12/III/68, near main camp, frequent displays and a bit of whistle by pipile @ 7:20-7:45AM bright sunny. (some audible on Cut 32 of Arremonops conirostris) [on next page] I heard absolutely no song nor display by this species at the Cano La Urbana during my visit 8/7/68 PM through 13/7/68 AM. However, I finally did see one, foraging high in one of the tall trees at entrance to campsite, late PM of 12/7/68. As it moved about in the tree it FLEW from branch to branch and unless it had to make a special effort, its wing movements were completely silent Also, as nearly as I could compare them by memory, the color of the soft parts was the same as on the bird I collected in January and that bird was sexually active. NOTE: From Nov 4, 1968 through Nov 9, this species was neither seen nor heard. It was almost surely not present in the area. Equipment Notes: microphone unknown.
