Adult is trying to tempt the chick with a sunfish.
Observation details
Observed with one chick. The chick can be no more than 3 days old at this time. In our experience this is the latest we have observed a loon chick to have hatched. When last observed adult loons were still nest sitting. These loons nest on an artificial nest platform and often return to rest there with the chick for extended periods. The chick has the ability to dive, staying submerged for up to 5 seconds. Shortly after we arrived one adult left and was not seen for the remainder of our observations. As it turns out it was the male (identified by its call) that was left attending the chick by itself. Observations are part of the Canadian Lakes Loon Survey
