Media notes
White-winged Scoter, Fremont County, ID, 10 July 2017
Observation details
Large black body easy to spot among Western Grebes and American White Pelicans. Identified to species by uniform black body, orange bill, bill shape, and the lack of white on the forehead and nape (which would infer Surf Scoter if present). I aged this bird as immature because there is still some white in the face that appears to be still there from younger plumage. I sexed this bird as male because of the orange bill, pale eye, and face pattern.
