Observation details
Plump, rather dull vireo with a brown eye, a broken white eyering, yellow lores, and a more substantial bill than the similar WEVI. The bird was scolding when I first found it on the Tortuga Trail and was singing very regularly during the almost 90 minutes I spent with it. During my observation, the bird steadily worked its way south on the trail and when I left it was still on the move, methodically feeding in the oaks closer to here (26.3770326, -80.1043348). The bird is almost certainly a result of the well-timed constant east wind we’ve had over the last two weeks. There was a nice mixed flock of warblers on the trail near the pin, but the TBVI wasn’t with them when I first located it and wasn’t really associating, continuing to move solo. A great bird anywhere in the county but especially exciting to find on campus - this is my 9th vireo species here! Photo and audio.
