Observation details
*High; flagged but numbers like this should be expected considering the extent of habitat here and the perfect conditions for SEOW today. The moment we all wait for on this Linnaean walk, and today the Shorties put on an unforgettable show. With cloudy skies and intermittent snow, the Shorties came out early today, flying around in numbers the moment I I pulled up at 3:10pm. After that, numbers continued to build throughout the evening. It was admittedly tough to get an accurate count, but at one point, I had four birds perched and eight in the air, and this was almost assuredly an undercount. Best views were obtained on the new platform, but most consistent views were from the old one. Lots of barks heard as they foraged, most often when they interacted with each other or NOHA. A few aerial squabbles, but nothing intense. Such a treat to enjoy these birds in good numbers, and probably the best SEOW experience we’ve had on this walk since I’ve been leading.
