Ruff, side view, first picture, 2nd dark individual, Bombay Hook NWR, DE
Observation details
First Ruff seen at Raymond Pool at 11am. Male with a white ruff of feathers about the head and neck area, light rust brown on the back, wings and sides, black on the belly and white in the vent area, light colored, medium length bill and medium length yellowish legs. Large shorebird, larger than nearby Dowitchers. A second, different Ruff seen at Shearness at 2pm. Male with black ruff of feathers on head, neck and extending onto the back, sides and breast, the back and wings were a dark mottled dark brown with white in the vent area, bill was dark and medium length, legs were medium length and yellowish. Again a large shorebird, larger than nearby Dowitchers. See attached pictures for details and more pictures are available. First sighting for life list.
