Observation details
A large flycatcher with a rufous tail and a streaked brown back. No rufous in the wings. Underparts yellow, heavily streaked with dusky on the breast, plainer on the belly. Ill-defined yellow crown patch visible. Heavy bill, gray with a rosy base to the mandible and extended commissures, suggesting a juvenile individual. The thick moustachal streaks on both sides of the chin join each other below the bill, which distinguishes this species from the similar Streaked Flycatcher. Bill too have for Variegated Flycatcher. Other similar species are not known to occur as vagrants in the area. Observed at close range in a small city park, next to a small fair with stands. The bird was not shy at all and perched in a recently planted tree for an elongated time. Lifer. Photographed, and also made a short video.
