NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 9. Bulk reel: 140; Extra cut(s) on bulk reel: 141; Extra cut length: 3:13Weather: Fair. a) 6:45 AM to 7:15 AM. This is a little further down the road from where Cut 8a) was recorded and was recorded as a trial using the SN recorder with 24" parabola. Natural song by Bird #(possibly #1 of Cut 8?).(This would be better if it were not for the howler background.)(This is good mainly for the idea of song combined with other birds, especially Pharomachrus and Henicorhina (also with Chameza ruficauda).b) 7:30 AM. The same bird (a few minutes later, after I went to fetch the new equipment) now recorded with N-IV, Senn. 405, and 36" parabola. Quality: 1. Level: +3.Note: This is better by virtue of 6-8 db more gain but also, aurally, because the "annoying" howler monkey background is missing. The greater gain is probably largely due to the difference between 36" and 24" parabola and the frequency of this bird's song.c) 9:45 AM. ~ km 23 (old) concrete bridge. This could well be the same bird as #2 in Cut 8b). This song is after bird brought close by playback. This bird's voice is lower pitched than that of bird in a & b. Quality: 1. Level: +3.
