Observation details
At dusk, one EWPW called incessantly; I've never heard one before. After dark, driving, in the car headlights, I saw a small lump on the road. It flew and I swore, realizing it was a Whippoorwill (I have found loads of Poorwill like this in California). I looped around the road again, and the bird was back on the road. It didn't seem bothered by the headlights - I hope it wasn't. I watched it and took lots of photos and video. Then I turned the car around and left it there on the road, undisturbed at last.
