Observation details
Photos to come. Found on the 6:40 am net run in a net adjacent to the big bog in a wooded area. Plain brownish bird with obvious long pale bill, dark eye-line, and rufous crown. A strong yellowish wash along the underside and on the throat with slight olive smudging around shoulders and down the flanks. Bird was banded, processed and released by the Manomet Banding team and volunteers. When released it flew to large cedar tree outside of HQ and was seen briefly and photographed by a few people outside the lab before taking off and not being seen again. Banders and other staff attempted to relocate throughout the day with no luck. Bird did not sing after it was released but did give a chip call as it flew off. A first plymouth county record, a first for Manomet Banding Lab and ~12th record for Massachusetts. Report on Ebird and other social media was held off until school groups had left the property and until the nets were closed to avoid crowds interfering with banding and education presentations. IF CHASING THIS BIRD THIS AFTERNOON OR THIS WEEKEND PLEASE BE RESPECTFUL OF ALL MANOMET PROPERTY RULES. DO NOT ENTER NET LANES OR ANY OTHER AREAS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC. PLAYBACK IS NOT ALLOWED ON MANOMET PROPERTY. Bird was refound by Lisa around 1:30 PM down Stage Point Road near the 3 way intersect.
