Observation details
Major surprise!!! Fifth state record, heard singing out the car window! Pulled over and quickly located it foraging mid height in pines up the hill from the road. Also spent some time in the brushy understory singing and interacting with a female YEWA. Many photos and audio TBA. Medium sized Setophaga with black face, white ear patch, rusty reddish sides and breast, and buffy white underneath. If chasing this bird, please stay attentive as shortly after finding the warbler I had a close encounter (less than twenty feet from me) with a Mountain Lion less than a quarter mile down the road, I don't believe it went very far. Note there is also a dead Mountain Lion on the side of the road at that location, separate from the live one (roadkill, victim of some sort of territorial dispute?)
