NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 19. Bulk reel: 109 Weather: Cloudy bright. a) One natural song phrase (not in focus), apparently by a male, recorded incidentally while recording Sporophila "lineola." Quality: 2. Level: +3. Song by the male after playback of previous phrase. (Is the second phrase here by male or female?) Quality: 1-2. Level: +3. 7.5 ips. LN. b) "Stress" calls by nestlings, male first, then female, then both. Then alarm "caw" calls by adult male. Quality: 1. Level: 0. 3.75 ips. LN. The birds, presumably of part a), were seen carrying food into a thicket. I pushed and crawled into the thicket and found the nest. In it was a female nestling almost at point of fledging and a meter or two away I found a male nestling. Whether it had already left the nest voluntarily or only to escape while I was pushing into the thicket I don't know. The nestlings were collected for clearing and staining. The description of their plumages is on a separate page. Then alarm "caw" callsl by adult male, recorded "in focus." Quality: 1. Level: +3. 3.75 ips. LN. Number of individuals=AM1AF1NU1+;.
