Observation details
Solitary male Chestnut-collared Longspur flushed at the Causeway. Distinct markings included a cream-coloured head with a black cap and a black line above the eye, a black triangle on tail with white margins, a chestnut collar, and a black breast. the bird made a single, plaintive "Peeeew" several times, sometimes followed by a short trill. The bird preferred the East side of the Causeway, skulking in the grassy areas surrounded by open patches of black peat and sparse driftwood. Though it would occasionally fly across the Causeway to the West side, it always returned to the East side and hunkered down in the sparse habitat.
